Beggars and Thieves Anti-Imperial Rye Lager
Beggars and Thieves Anti-Imperial Rye Lager, brewed by the Devils Elbow Brewing Company of Lexington, VA, USA, is the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America® ‘Symposium Beer’ of choice for 2013.
This annual event was held in late March in Washington, D.C., in front of a core of appreciative fans of craft brewing, including brewery owners, brewers, beer writers and vendors to the trade.
Hitting just 4.9 percent abv, this lager has a snow-white head of foam sitting atop a polished golden coloured beer. Fresh malt and tingly notes of rye are prevalent in the nose. This is a malt accented brew in direct apposition, dare I say, opposition, to double IPAs, black IPAs and the like.
It is crisp on the palate, with just enough hop bitterness to keep it in balance. The finish is mildly dry and refreshing. Not big but not bad.
